Sarah - Home

Soft Ground

In New Orleans there is a problem.
They say the city was built on a bad location. Swamps all around, ground softer then wet bread.
Because the ground is so soft numerous plants and trees are able to take root anywhere.
And they do.
Because the ground is soft trees seep they roots deep into the earth and stand strong through even the most dangerous winds.
Because the ground is soft ferns and moss grow on every oak trunk.
They say the soft ground is a problem. It’s not.
This city is a melting pot of culture, faith and joy.
In barren and dry places roots can’t take hold.
But not in New Orleans.
What makes this city what it is, is its ability to take hold.
Our families, our love and our strength hold us down in this soft ground.
Our roots channel deep below the cobble streets and tiled corners.
The location doesn’t matter because it is the people, with their roots like the St. Charles oaks, holding the ground together.
It is this love, happiness and music of this place that holds the city together.
We hold the city together. We are our home.
