To think one single place in New Orleans has influenced me is difficult.
But, there is one that has captured my heart and taught me so much
New Orleans City Hall.
The ugly office building with a “burn’t out” sign and ugly green walls has influenced me because it is a symbol for NOLA
Every day there is a new experience…
A pushy man refuses to let you through the side door of the office
The elevator does not work
An Asian from New York introduces herself
Discussions over college and British Reality shows surface
The mayor sings to you while holding hot rollers for your hair
The elevator is out again
Someone didn’t do what they were supposed to do
Someone came up with a revolutionary idea
Someone comes to complain
Someone is on a break
Only two elevators work
Was that a Mardi Gras Indian?
Are they second-lining in the halls?
I have learned what it means to work hard and sometimes not get rewarded, to try your best and no one notices, but I have learned that at least one time while you’re there, you remember why you work for New Orleans.
