The tree of life
Its large
magnificent body sits tranquil in that same spot off the park and close by the
river
Its ancient branches
like arms shelter me from the New Orleans heat in July
Its large roots like
waves sprouting from the earth serve as my seat for a summer pik- nik
The tree of life my
old friend watched generation after generation pass
all the while
befriending many and sharing special moments with even more
It will remain after
my death and yours
That centuries old
oak holds much wisdom of the people in our little city off the Mississippi
